Most 2026 moves must be completed by year-end
Federal and Washington tax changes in 2025 and 2026 make year-end planning especially important. Decisions now can affect your 2026 return and your tax position through 2028.
Retailing, wholesaling and manufacturing B&O rates move to a single 0.5% rate. Service businesses already moved to 1.75% above $1M and 2.1% above $5M of gross income. Your classification mix matters more than ever.
100% bonus depreciation and the 20% QBI deduction are now permanent. Equipment, entity, and compensation decisions matter—and equipment must be in service by December 31.
Long-term gains above $1 million are taxed at 9.9% instead of 7%. Direct sales of real estate are excluded, but the sale of an interest in an entity that owns property is only partly covered.
A 9.9% tax on income above $1 million takes effect January 1, 2028. Initiative 645, which would repeal it, is on the November 3 ballot. Either way, 2026 and 2027 are the years to look at structure.
Figures reflect federal, Washington and Idaho law as of October 2026. Your plan confirms what applies to your situation.

Year-end planning is billed at your usual BSK rates. Your CPA will confirm the scope and fee on your planning call.
Yes. Planning happens before December 31, while there's still time to act. It looks at the moves that can lower your 2026 bill and set up 2027. Preparation reports what already happened.
Planning and preparation are separate engagements, but your plan is built by the same team that can prepare your 2026 return, so nothing gets lost in the handoff.
Many of the most valuable moves, like equipment purchases, charitable gifts and some retirement contributions, generally must be completed by December 31. Planning in Q4 keeps both tax years on the table.
